Director for Business Development
As Director for Business Development, Sergey is building and developing a network of contacts and relationships to promote Pen & Paper’s brand and competencies in the legal services market. He is also part of the effort to formulate and implement the firm’s business development strategy.
He started his TV career in the early 1990s.
He founded and became the CEO of Art Pictures St. Petersburg, a production company, in 1992.
Between 1992 and 1999, he scripted and directed more than 200 music videos featuring Russian pop music stars, such as Alla Pugacheva, Philipp Kirkorov, Igor Nikolaev, Laima Vaikule, Natalya Vetlitskaya, Alexander Buinov, Igor Krutoy, Nikolay Baskov, Natasha Koroleva, and others.
He and his company developed and produced more than 50 TV projects of different kinds for key Russian TV channels, including entertainment shows, reality shows, documentaries, history, educational and entertainment programming.
Between 2003 and 2005, he was founding partner of Soho Production OOO.
From 2003 to 2004, he served as Senior Producer and Director at VID TV Company.
From 2004 to 2007, he was head of Dramatized, Entertainment and Educational Programming on Russia’s Channel One.
Sergey Kalvarskiy led the teams that created the Evening With Maxim Galkin show, which has gone on to win the Russian National TEFI TV Award, as well as a number of popular projects including Minute of Fame, Test Purchase, Buscuit, Big Premiere, The Big Race, Before Bedtime.
From 2007 through 2010, he was founder and senior producer and director at SOHO Media. The studio’s projects enjoyed consistently strong ratings and won several professional awards: a 2010 TEFI for the best TV documentary series for History of Russian Show Business, a DetectiveFEST international detective film festival (for Law and Society) in the World Without Drugs category. The company’s assets were subsequently sold to STS Media Holding.
In 2010, Sergey Kalvarskiy established Hyde Park, an independent production company to make TV content commissioned by Russia’s major TV channels.
In 2012, he began writing for and hosting the Barabaka and the Grey Wolf show on Silver Rain Radio.
He produced and directed Hostage, a 2013 documentary about the people involved in the YUKOS criminal case.
In 2018, he joined Ksenia Sobchak’s presidential campaign, leading the campaign’s video production, managed the presidential candidate’s YouTube channel, producing campaign content for the web and Russian nationwide TV. He has been full member of the Russian TV Academy since 2007.
